Great Pod Cast James ! I really liked how you mentioned that most cases of TMJ are related to other complaints like headaches and neck pain and are seldom the single complaint of jaw pain, clicking, etc. And that many areas like the cervical spine and surrounding nerves, muscles and connective tissues are usually involved.
A lot of people tend to neglect that a lot of problems, in this case TMJ dysfunction, are caused by different things like direct trauma, overuse of one side of the jaw, etc. It rarely stops there. You’ll get that referral pain and even if you fix the root of the problem (AKA the TMJ) you can still feel pain there because the body’s kind of stuck that way. Curing both ends of the problem: the TMJ and myofascial referral. Best way to do that is to coordinate with their dentist.
